President's Message

Our 74th Annual General Meeting was held on Monday with over 110 Members registering. This is the highest attendance in recent years and shows the active interest Members have in our Club as we enter the important 75th year. Members can access the full AGM Presentation HERE.

Firstly, congratulations to Chris Millard who was elected, with overwhelming support, as our latest Life Member.

Your new Board is almost unchanged with only Ross Donaldson standing down, as he is relocating to the South Coast. Ross has been an excellent Director and an asset to our Club, he will be sorely missed. Congratulations to Steve Bradley who is the only new Director, and to Ben Brown who assumes the position of Captain (Unopposed).

There were a few hot topics on the evening with the new Sports Bar leading, Lottery Bookings close behind and Slow Play bringing up the rear.

I would like to re-iterate that there is no increase in the number of Gaming Licences and our focus remains on having a contemporary Sports Bar and a separated, family-friendly Club Lounge.

The Sports Bar is ahead of schedule and running within Budget, which will be funded out of cash reserves. Many Members took the opportunity to look over the site which is shaping up to be a fantastic venue with some of the best sports' viewing options in the district.

In light of some feedback, more attention will be paid to ensuring Members are kept better updated and you will read below that we are holding a naming competition - so get your entries in. Furthermore, we will shortly setup a Members Working Group to discuss Slow Play and the Booking system and will feedback their recommendations in coming weeks.

As an aside, if you have friends who have either unsubscribed or don't read the 19th News, please encourage them to reconsider, as it is here that you will find the most accurate and recent information.

Name our Sports Bar

We enjoyed the chance to offer members a peek into the layout of the new Sports Bar at the AGM on Monday night. For those that weren't able to make it, please see below for a couple of shots.

In the meantime and while the builders are busy at work fitting it all out, we would like you to get some member help in naming the Sports Bar. Calling such an integral and important area of the Club the "Sports Bar" is missing a great opportunity.

Please submit your suggestion via email for a new name which might relate to the heritage of the Club, Golf or just be a good name.

From the submissions received at nameourbar@northrydegolfclub.com.au by Friday 14 July there will be two runner-up prizes of $100 house credit each with the winning entry receiving $250 house credit with winners to be announced at the 22 July Super Presentation.

Course Report

During the last week you may have noticed some pathway formwork being erected at the back of the 12th green and to the right of the 11th tee.

The new buggy storage shed path links up the existing pathways to the busy maintenance facility. This negates the need for constant path repairs which have been going on for many years as well as improves the dust generated from traffic around the area.

Main Bar Closed until 4:30pm, due an Annual Golf Charity event but the Halfway Bar is open to all. Please join us for our weekly Friday evening of Fun, from 5:30 pm tickets will be on sale for our Meat Raffle with the members' CASH DRAW at $1,900. Any financial member playing or social is eligible to win the cash, you just have to be here to hear your number drawn!

2023 Men's Master Pennants

Sadly, I have to report that our undefeated Master Pennant Team played their final match last Sunday for this year.

After going through and winning our section undefeated we were drawn to play Marrickville in the semi-final of the division at Bankstown Golf Club. Unfortunately, we were defeated 5 games to 3 in a very tight encounter. So, congratulations to Marrickville who now go on to play Bankstown, next Sunday in the Division Final at Twin Creeks Golf Club.

This was a sad day for all the players, caddies and supporters as it is now the second year in a row where we have won our section but just fell short in the Division semi-final.

As Manager I would like to thank each player for their spirit, effort and unwavering commitment to each other in proudly representing themselves and this very fine Club. We will now have to regroup and be ready for a new challenge next year.

One of the great things about North Ryde Pennant Teams is the huge support the players receive from their Caddies. As we saw again this year, not every team in the competition is as fortunate as we are at North Ryde, with many of our opponents having to drag their own bags. Our Caddies are an integral of the Team and its success and on behalf of all the players, I would like to thank each of them for the support they gave the Team throughout the season.

The Team also had great support from members who came out to watch the matches, for which the team is very grateful.

I would also like to give special mention to our Sponsors - Tyrepower, West Ryde Smash Repairs and Bennelong Legal Services. Your generosity and support is very much appreciated.

Congratulations Roy

'Got to be in it to win it' as the saying goes and this time it was our Member Roy Shuttleworth who entered a national competition through one of the Pro-Shop's monthly emails to our golfers.

This national completion was run jointly by Yourgolfpro group and Srixon. With over 700 entries Roy was randomly drawn to be the lucky winner.

State of Origin last clash between the two greats on Wednesday, July 12 with some 'Great Giveaways on the night come join us for the Blues last opportunity to beat Queensland in at least one of the three great clashes.'

Saturday, 22 July we look forward to another Super Saturday afternoon and evening of FREE live music listening to some of your favourite tunes. Put the date in your diary so you don't miss out on this great monthly event - all welcome.

Welcome

Many of you on Monday evening, June 26 at the AGM may have noticed a new smiling face behind the Bar.

Let me introduce you to the latest new staff member to join our team, Lachlan Brown. Lachlan is local to North Ryde born and bred just down the road in Epping, he is an enthusiast sportsman with a love of soccer, tennis and of course golf!

When he is not playing sport, working at the Club or studying at Macquarie Uni (2nd year of Commerce with a Maj. in Marketing and Management), Lachlan's other great passion is getting back to the country side. He tries to visit the family farm at least 3 times a year where they run cattle and crops located 6 hours west of Sydney in Ungarie. So let's all welcome Lachlan to the Club and say hi next time you see him.
