Taking inspiration from Neil Ballantine, life member and committee member of Balmain Darts, a group of fellow North Ryde Golf Club members, a few of whom have played in various dart comps around Sydney hoped that one day we would be able to represent our own Golf Club side hosting comps at the Club. With great determination and fantastic support from the Board we have managed to fulfill a long-time dream and establish our first ever dart team - The NRGC GUZZLERS.
On the 3/8/22 we played our inaugural match (downstairs at the Club - home ground) in the Balmain Darts A-Grade competition and what a night it was - we beat Burwood RSL 15-0. An achievement we will never forget and one that will be hard to replicate!
A few months on and after many weekday practices (undertaken at the Club, in the Halfway Bar) we are happy to announce that in this, our maiden year, on 30/11/22 we have made the semi-finals. Even more proud was our achievement of knocking off highly ranked Gladesville Sporties "Grizzlies" to progress through to the finals next week where we will put it all on the line to make the grand final the following week (14/12/22) and throw against Neil's team - the defending champions.
Pictured is our very proud and happy team and I would like to encourage anyone who has an interest in darts to come support, throw, have fun and get involved in a great sport. We are really keen to register another team from our Club next year so please get in contact and it might be you in the finals next year.
