Sports Bar Update & Name our Bar Competition

We have received a fantastic response from members in naming our new Bar.  To date we have received over 100 suggestions with members all keen to put their own stamp on the Club.

The Board will deliberate over all the great entries and ultimately reward three creative members with two runner-up prizes of $100 house credit and the ultimate winner will receive not only a $250 house credit but also ultimate bragging rights on the new name.

Please see below some photos which show the ongoing progress of the Sports Bar.

2023 Eric Apperly Shield

Our Eric Apperley side played their first match at Manly against Manly last Sunday, 9 July.  Pictured front row from the left: Elijah Chahine, Fletcher Thompson, Enzo Moon, Daniel Fazzolari, Lara Mandalidis and played although missing from the photo, Caylum Cheng.  As you can tell by the many smiling faces (including Manager Ben Brown at the back), they won.  It was an impressive result with a 3.5 to 2.5 win.

The team is new to this level of matchplay and we are very proud! What a fantastic effort!

Round 2 is at Liverpool this weekend, Sunday 16 July verses Oatlands. Excited to see what this group of young golfers can do.

Wishing our team all the best for this weekend.

Friday Night Fun

Meat Raffle & Members Cash Draw every Friday evening is always a great night at the Club with 18 Meat Trays being raffled off to members and visitors in the Clubhouse. Topping off that fun is members CASH draw and last week Friday, 7 July the lucky winner of the $2000 cash jackpot was Alex Cicchini.

The man with the big voice who volunteers his time running so many of our events showed his big heart and put a generous portion of his winnings on the bar in a giant "shout"!

This Friday, 14 July, we will once again resume the cash draw at $1,000.  To win, you just need to be a member (playing or social) and be present when your number is drawn.  Every week that the drawn member is not present at the Club when drawn, the cash pool will jackpot by $100.  This will potentially once again reach the $2,000 cap.

So be here this Friday at 5:30pm to get tickets to win a meat tray or even better, get cashed-up by winning the $1,000!

Course Rating Changes

We have recently undertaken a review of the course which encompassed re-measuring each hole to create four tees that can be used in competitions for both Men and Women.  The four tee markers are Blue, White, Red and Yellow.

Following this, NSW Golf have re-rated the course and calculated the new ratings as shown in the accompanying chart which will take effect from Saturday, 15 July.

What does this mean?

Women – For women there will be a slight change to your daily handicap as the slope rating has reduced from 124 to 121.

Men – For men, most Monday, Wednesday and Sunday competitions will be a White course setup, so your Handicap will be lower than currently. You will still play off the blue markers, but the course setup will depend on where the tees are that day. Saturdays will still be mostly a blue setup.

Women's News

Match Play Qualifying: Next week is a stroke round and the first qualifying round for Match Play.  Please remember to tell the Pro Shop staff if you wish to qualify for the Match Play.

The following week is the second qualifying round of the Match Play and also Medal Round 6.  Book online as usual for both stroke rounds. The best score in either round will be used to qualify.  The top eight (8) players in each division will qualify.

Pennants: Bronze I played Carnarvon at Bankstown last Friday, 7 July and had another win (4/1).  That is two wins from two games. The team was Kerry Attenborough (Field Captain), Karol, Hwang, Jane Youm, Judy Ro & Misuk Lee.  Well done girls and keep the winning streak going.

Slow Play: If you cannot see the group in front you are deemed to be slow!  Last Thursday in the Ambrose competition the slow play started with the 4th group and increased throughout the field leaving the last groups 53 minutes behind their expected finishing time.  This is not acceptable and needs to be addressed.

Barbara Evennett - Women's Captain

7 Rules Even Experienced Golfers Find Confusing

The Rules of Golf can bemuse, confound or just be plain perplexing at times even for many experienced golfers who have played for years. There are many situations that crop up where the correct decision can't always be agreed upon in a playing group.

In this video originally posted by Golf Monthly and much shared around by many golfing groups, Neil Tappin from Golf Monthly's is joined by golf rules guru Jezz Ellwood, these two professionals go through some of the most confusing rules in the book and offer simple explanations. To view the video either click HERE or on the accompanying image.
