Members Fours are Back!

Good news, our playing members can once more book in groups of 4s if double vaccinated.

If you are a current playing member and wish to be included to play in these tee times for fours, please have your certificate of vaccination verified by the Club by either making an appointment with the office or alternatively present your certificate to a board member on duty during the weekend who'll pass your name onto the office to be registered.

All personal information will continue to remain confidential and will only be used internally to allocate you onto the appropriate timesheets. Please email or call us if you have any queries.

e-mail : office@northrydegolfclub.com.au     phone: 9887 4422

Please Note if you reside in an area of concern you are only permitted to play in twos  until this restriction is lifted.

As of today with the ability to add 4's to the timesheet, we have updated the Members' booking rules.

Each week Members may book:

  • One competition game when the sheet first opens for a midweek competition.
  • One competition game when the sheet first opens for a weekend competition.
  • A second midweek and weekend competition game booked 30 minutes after the opening of the timesheet or coming in off the waitlist. (This is not 30 minutes after the lottery waitlist queue starts but 30 minutes after the timesheet opens and those in the queue are given their lottery number)
  • A maximum of 2 midweek competitions and 2 weekend competitions.
  • A maximum of 2 social rounds

If you reside outside 5km of the Course you are not permitted on the Course.  Non-compliance of any of the above may result in a two-week suspension and/or referral to the Authorities.

Vale to two who shall be missed

Vale is Latin for farewell/goodbye and today we farewell two of our longstanding and much loved members and friends from the perspective of their friends.

Peter Stretton

It is with great regret that one of our most-liked and long-standing members of more than 48 years, Peter Stretton has passed away at the age of 80 years on Tuesday 14 September.  Peter had battled poor health for the past few years.

In spite of a busy family and working life as a school principle, Peter contributed much time to North Ryde.  He served on the Board as a Director and Vice Captain and he was also the editor of the 19th News for 13 years.  If there was anything which needed to be done at the Club, Peter was always the first to volunteer.  This spirit of community and giving made Peter a well-respected member by all.  He played most of his golf with long-time mate, David Sellars.  Two of Peter's sons, David & Matthew followed their father's love of golf playing at North Ryde.

Inspired by Peter's devotion, his son David became a Professional and moved to Cowra Golf Club where he instigated reciprocity between the clubs and the Stretton Shield was born.  This is a competition which still runs between the juniors of both clubs and has been going for 24 years.  When Cowra came to North Ryde Peter and Nerada would put the whole team up in their home.

Our condolences to Nerada and his three sons, may he rest in peace.

Jeff Adams

It is with much sadness that I write these few lines about our great friend and mate Jeff Adams who passed away on Saturday 11 September, aged 73 years.

Jeff Adams and I have been friends for over 30 years which included playing comp tennis at Eastwood/Thornleigh Tennis Club and sadly has ended at North Ryde after many happy shared times.  Jeff was always willing to help people which is typified in his volunteer bus driving for an old people's home on excursions.

Jeff was a strong advocate of North Ryde insisting that Diana and I join the Club when we needed support.  He even facilitated our seamless entry into the Club which has been the start of a great new part of our lives for which we will be forever grateful.  Jeff's happy and easy-going, fun nature will be sadly missed by wife Carol and also all of us at North Ryde.  RIP Jeff.

What do I do when my lost ball is found after I have searched for three minutes and have played another ball from where the previous shot was made under the stroke and distance penalty?

The answer to this question is covered by Rule 6.3 b -  Substitution of Another Ball While Playing Hole

Substituted Ball Becomes Ball in Play

If the player's original ball has not been found and the player puts another ball in play by taking stroke-and-distance relief

  • The original ball is no longer in play, even if it is at rest on the course.
  • The player must continue playing with the  substituted ball, and
  • The player must not play the original ball even if it is found on the course before the end of the three-minute search time (see Rule 18.2a(1)).

To clarify this:  Once you have played another ball from the place of the previous stroke taking the stroke and distance penalty, the original ball must not be played even if it is found.
