2022 Junior Open

North Ryde hosted their annual Junior Open Championship yesterday, Thursday 20 January.

Once again it was a very successful day with all players enjoying themselves. The weather was kind to us with only a couple of light showers. The course was in amazing condition and we had many comments on how beautiful the course is, thanks to Ron and his staff.

This event hosted a number of very low marker entrants.

Congratulations to the Winners

Junior Cup boys - Jack Phillips from Concord GC with 65 scratch. Jack's handicap is 1.
Runner-up boys - Joshua Hawkshaw from Toukley GC with 66 scratch. Joshua's handicap is 2.
Junior Cup girls - Lara Mandalidis from North Ryde GC with 81 scratch. Lara's handicap is 11.
Runner-up girls -Sophia Perkins from The Australian GC with 82 scratch. Sophia's handicap is 4.

Thanks to our wonderful members who gave up their time to spot on the course. We would like to thank all our sponsors; we couldn't have an event like this without them.

Grab Your Bag Tag!

It is now compulsory that all members have the new North Ryde Bag Tags on their golf bags. If you haven't grabbed your's yet, please do so from the office.

These RFID Bag Tags were introduced to provide the Board and Management with crucial data in course usage, choke points and pace of play monitoring. This data will be used to improve the course design, the flow and improve the enjoyment of golf for all players.

RFID tags do not contain GPS technology and are only recognised by the five tracking stations on the course at the 2nd, 7th,10th, 13th & 18th holes.

If any member has any concerns, please contact the office.

Keep putting those Main Bar receipts in the Car Barrel and be like Bobby  and increase your chances of Winning the red MG 3 Excite!

Bobby Blacklaw was one of our lucky two Barrel Draws winners in December and also last Wednesday, 19 January another of Bobby's recipes was drawn out of the barrel. This now gives Bobby two chances in the final Draw on April 27.

Next Draw nights are 6:30pm - 16 Feb, 16 March and then our final night on 28 April when we draw 5 extra receipts (5 more chances to WIN), then all 15 finalists go in the draw for the Car that night! Who will be the Winner of the MG3 Excite - Maybe YOU!!

Ladies Report

Upcoming Drawn Game
Our first medal round is scheduled for Tuesday, 8 February.  This is our first drawn game for the year.  If you wish to participate in this competition, please ensure you put your name, GA Handicap and Membership number on the sheets in the locker room.  The draw for this game will be done on Wednesday, 2 February.

If you wish to be eligible for any of the Golf NSW Women's events, fees must be paid before the first medal round.  Due to most of last year's Golf NSW events not being able to be completed due to COVID, last year's special events money will be carried over to this year.  A list of those that have paid will be put up in the locker room.

If you have not paid and wish to participate in the Golf NSW Events (Medal Rounds, NSW Bowl, Goodwill Plate), please see one of the committee who will help you with this.

Slow Play: A reminder to everyone that your place in the field is immediately behind the group in front of you, not in front of the group behind.

Tips to help with pace of play:

  • Be at the tee and ready to play 15 minutes before your tee time.
  • Move on to the tee as soon as the previous group have left it so that you can hit off as soon as the group in front is out of range.
  • Watch the flight of every shot, until it stops, not just your own.  This will result in less searching time and fewer lost balls.
  • Keep up with the group in front of you.
  • Be efficient on the putting green, If the next tee is clear, when two people have completed putting, they should then proceed to the next tee and tee off before marking their cards.

This Monday, 17 January, the Ladies Club Champion Madi Woodley played in the NSW golf event, the Champions of Champions. The 36 hole event was played at Manly Golf Club this year with multiple club champions from the greater Sydney region and beyond competing for the title.

Despite the heat and the latter afternoon wind, Madi put in her best effort representing North Ryde Golf Club. Leading after the first round with a score of 76 (2 over), followed by a second round of 81 (6 over), she finished runner up, winning the 1st 18 hole gross and the overall 36 hole nett.

More Success for Enzo

Another great week of golf for our young junior Enzo Moon. These are the results from the recent Harvey Norman Sydney Week of Golf.

3rd (Brighton Lakes GC) - 75 (5 over)
4th (Cumberland GC) - 73 (1 over)
