Captain's End of Year Message

Seasons Greetings to everyone and best wishes for 2024.

Further to the announcements of upgrade works on the 14th, which is in accordance with the Master Plan, I am happy to advise that work will commence at the start of the New Year, being Tuesday, 2 January.

From this date, Superintendent Luke and his team will undertake preparatory work including closing down the 14th access, irrigation etc.  The shaper will then be onsite from Monday, 8 January, using the same machinery we saw in action when the 18th work was undertaken.

From Tuesday, 2 January we will be playing off the Temporary Course, taking the 14th out of play and bringing in 2A & 2B.

Obviously, we are reliant on weather and trades but we anticipate reopening the 14th for the final round of the Stan Sheather Bowl in early June.

Wishing you all good health and happiness for the coming year and a wonderful year of golf ahead.

Ben Brown - Club Captain

Golfers Resilience

Evidence of our Golfers toughness or slight madness as shown by above images kindly provided by Terry McCarthy of his team determined to finish their game on the 18th hole on Christmas Eve as a small but heavy storm cell hit the course.  Again on Wednesday, 27 December we saw another storm cell hit us, this time dumping rain and hail (also pictured above) with many golfers back on the greens to enjoy the rest of their game within half an hour of the hail coming through.

At least every rain shower is helping add to the much needed water in our dams. May you all keep on enjoying your game no matter the weather, Happy New Year!

New Golf Professional

Introducing our newest golfing professional, Jan Maggio. Jan joined the Pro-Shop team during the 2nd week in December. Born in Thailand and New Zealand raised (we won't hold New Zealand against her) she started her golfing history at a young age at Remuera Golf Club, representing Auckland as a junior.

Jan stepped away from golf into the corporate world but her passion for the game of golf and coaching won out with her becoming a PGA associate member at Killara Golf Club. Now we at North Ryde Golf Club are fortunate to be able to welcome her into our Club.

When not busy at the Club or playing in competitions, Jan is busy looking after her active two-year-old son who will certainly keep her fit for golf. Jan is looking forward to coaching our cadets, juniors and members in 2024.

Welcome Alex to the Office

With Christmas and the rush of Subs time upon us, the Office welcomes a new face. Alex Gaunt is helping cover the front desk and office admin while Nikola is on three weeks leave and will hopefully also act as a backup for the admin staff as needed.

Local to the area living at Ryde with her family, husband, a 3 year old and the cat called Rosie. Alex brings with her a wide range of experience including hospitality.  She is an outdoor girl with a passion for bushwalking, gardening, the beach and loves a good local park where she has more chance of chasing down her active 3-year-old. With the love of outdoors maybe we can convince her to also give Golf a go.

If you see Alex at reception, by all means stop by to welcome her to the Club

We are delighted to introduce a play area especially for children of Members and Visitors of North Ryde Golf Club. The Kids' Room is the ideal space for your children / grandchildren to play in while you relax and enjoy a drink and/or a meal.

The Kids' Room will have a PS5 with a big screen TV, skill testers*, racing car game* and a couple more games still to come!

The Room opens from Wednesday, 3 January 2024 so come on down to the Club and be one of the first to check out this fantastic new space!

*There is a small cost to use some games - payment is by token, which can be purchased from a terminal in the Kids' Room.

Save Moore Park

Moore Park Golf Club is seeking help from golf clubs across NSW by simply requesting its members sign our petition to save our golf course.

The Moore Park public golf course was created in 1913 for the working class of Sydney so they too could enjoy playing golf, previously a privilege at private golf clubs only. As a result, the people of Sydney, regardless of gender, age or skill level have had access to affordable rates at an 18-hole Championship golf course in the heart of Sydney.

Now, 110 years later, the Premier of NSW has decided to take that pleasure away from the people and visitors to Sydney by cutting the course in half and as a 9-hole course it will struggle financially, eventually the total course will go and so will the golfing experience disappear. There has been no stakeholder consultation process to explore solutions that can retain the 18-hole championship course and share the green space when required.

Save Moore Park, join the petition by CLICKING HERE.

Yours sincerely, John Janik - President, Moore Park Golf Club

Swear off slicing,

Swear off looking up;

Swear off doing all but shooting for the center of the cup.

SWEAR off topping, over swinging, as you stand upon the tee;
