Course Report

This week the greens staff have continued concentrating on the large job of the cutting out and replacement of damaged turf caused by the wet weather. The focus has been on repairing sections of the following fairways the 2nd, 4th, 9th, 15th and 16th.

Prior to the turf being replaced, areas are being aerated with our Verti-drain. This machine punches 12mm solid tines into the surface to help with the drying out of the sub surface. This process will continue on all required areas (see photo).

Rule Relief for Ball

Recently I had the misfortune of hitting my ball into the garden with relief and no penalty as the garden was tagged with a white marker. We searched in the shrub where my ball entered but could not find it. I replaced my ball with no penalty for the lost ball.

I have been informed that IF you are sure where your ball has entered, you can replace your ball with no penalty as it's deemed you can't lose a ball in GUR (Ground Under Repair) which is what the white marker signifies. I stress that you must be sure where your ball has entered and could not be found within that area otherwise it's a case of a lost ball with the appropriate penalty.

A schoolteacher was taking her first golf lesson. "Is the word spelled
p-u-t or p-u-t-t?" she asked the instructor. "P-u-t-t is correct," he replied. "Put means to place a thing where you want it. Putt means merely a vain attempt to do the same thing."
