Course Renovations

With the arrival of spring, it's time for our summer maintenance programs to begin, starting with the two days of course renovations that are integral to keeping our course in the condition so many of our golfers and visitors compliment us on.  The course will be CLOSED Monday, 4 and Tuesday, 5 September for these course renovations.

Father & Son Winners

Congratulations to Kel & Fin Christenson for winning the annual Frank Lockery Father & Son Memorial Trophy last weekend Saturday, 26 August. With Father's Day just around the corner this Sunday it's a particularly good time to celebrate our Fathers & Sons.

It was a very tight competition, with Kel & Fin just winning over the runners up, Brad and David Hyland, with a score of 46 on a count back.

Congratulations once again to our winners and all players on the day, with over 17 Father & Son teams taking the field on a gorgeous spring-like day.

Super Senior Pennants

Thursday, 24 August we played at Asquith against Oatlands. It was a great day for golf. At the halfway point, we were leading in five games, square in one, and down in two. I'm thinking, "today is our day". However Oatlands played well on the back nine and our possible win ended up a draw, North Ryde 4 and Oatlands 4. Unfortunately, we lost three games on the last hole. The winners were Peter Richardson. Warren Clark, Stan Skala and Graham Onley.

Monday, 28 August the game was against Bayview at Roseville. The course was in good condition. Again, we were leading well at halfway but this time we went on to score a morale boosting 6-2 win! Great effort by the team. The winners were Geoff Rogerson, James Cheesman, Peter Richardson, Colin Moore and Graham Onley. John Yoo and David Hyland halved their games.

Wish the Team all the best for our last game at Monash on Thursday, 7 September.

Women's Report

Congratulations again to all the women golfers who contributed to Charity Day on Tuesday, 22 August. Your generosity, together with the Club's donation of the green frees for the day, will allow us to donate $7,534 to The Shepherd Centre.

A magnificent effort, thank you all.

Eve Sheppard - Women's President

Veterans' Foursomes

On Tuesday we played the Veterans' Foursomes which is one of our major trophy events.  The day was fine and ideal for a game of golf, 108 players entered the competition.

  • The winners of the Mrs T. Horn Bowl were Kerry Attenborough & Julie Ogilvie with a nett score of 69. Image above.
  • The Vi Atkinson Shield went to Susan Currie & Judy Merrick as runners-up with a nett score of 68.5.
  • The Edith Murphy Plate was won by Helen Lee & Anne Kim with the best gross score of 98. Image above.

From all reports the day was enjoyed by all. Our next event is the Min Smith Salver, entry sheet on the bench in the locker room.

Vets' News

We wish to advise that a list of games played by all Members up to and including our last game on Monday, 28 August is now on the Notice Board. This list is of interest to Members relative to our Hams Day. At this stage it's too early for any decision to be made as to the number of games played which will guarantee a ham. We will keep you posted.

Whilst we have your attention, we wish to provide a further reminder that our game on Monday, 25 September has been cancelled, and will be held a week earlier on Monday, 18 September. This change has been necessary due to the 2 day School Holiday Junior Coaching Camp being held at the Club on Monday, 25 September. Please update your Fixtures Book accordingly.

Scott Beatty - Veterans Captain

Darts Update

It was a great night for the Club last week Wednesday, 23 August, winning both A & B Grade Darts Matches in style.

B Grade have gotten their season back on track with an 11-1 thrashing of 'The Cat & Fiddle' and now sit 4th on the ladder. A Grade had their first ever victory over many time premiers 'Gladesville Sporties' with an outstanding 10-5 team win, putting them 2nd on the ladder.

Special mention goes to Dell Crockart (pictured) who defeated leading A Grade singles and Sydney Cup champion Allan Cook in a brilliant singles match that inspired the rest of the team to dig deep and really put the boot in to the opposition.

So bring on this week's highly anticipated top of the table clash against leaders 'Gladesville Grizzlies' at Sporties - the boys are raring to go !!
