President's Update
I would like to update you on a few things that have recently occurred, or are in the planning phase.

Firstly, I'd like to report back on the Sports Bar which officially opened on Friday, 22 September. In the last few weeks, our products and services have been steadily fine-tuned and your Board and Management are confident that the renovated Bar provides members and guests with a quality, new and exciting venue for the Ryde area.

The Sports Bar encompasses many upgrades including removing gaming from the Club Lounge, a greater focus on sport, a snack menu and new beverages, including cocktails. In the month since opening Members and guests have enjoyed over 400 Cocktails and 8,000 plus beverages as well as consumed 110 burgers and 100 share plates highlighting only a few of the many food options available.  On the Grand Final weekend, the Club was busier than ever before. Shown below is the comparison for September for the past 6 years.

It is pleasing to note that the Sports Bar development has been funded out of current cash reserves and is already contributing revenue. I also note that some Members felt that more communication was required and your Board will strive to do so, as we move forward. As an aside, I'd like to congratulate the Architects, Builders, Management and the Construction Working Group (especially Anthony Ryan, Steve Callaghan and Ross Donaldson) for the fantastic result that has been achieved on time and on budget.

Next week you will see some changes taking place to the kitchen reception and entrance passage to modernise and enable easier access,

The next 2 projects your Board is considering are:

  • Redevelopment of the 14th Green and surrounds, as per the Master Plan and
  • Repurpose of the old gaming area, into a child-friendly area.

These are being scoped and planned for the next 6-8 months and Management will pin-up artist's impressions and plans as they become available.

For many years now, the 19th News has been published weekly. From 1 November this will change to fortnightly, to relieve some of the administrative burden, but also pivot slightly to be more golf-oriented with increased content on rules, etiquette and competitions and reduced advertising which will be done mainly through social media, the onsite TVs and the external display screens.

As we move into the busiest time of the year, which is also likely to be dry, may I please ask you to take special care of the course? Repair your pitch and divots marks, keep carts and buggies away from greens and worn areas, exit to the back of greens (not via the front worn areas which also holds up play) and keep up the pace of play to reduce the general wear and tear on the course.

Happy golfing and enjoy your time on the course as it springs into life.

Mark Mathieson - President

Around the Course

Hello all, I hope everyone is well. Staff continue with regular mowing practices around the course. With club championships currently taking place, an increase in rolling practices has begun, which will increase the firmness of the surfaces. This will lead to increased speeds across the surfaces.

Turfing works have now been completed. Turf works included the 8th tee and 2nd green surround. In the coming weeks, once the 8th tee has established a healthy root system, the surface will receive an application of top-dressing sand to ensure a smooth true playing surface. I ask that all golfers please stay off the newly laid turf.

On your travels around the course, you may have seen a number of red circles which would be located in the roughs. These markings are for tree plantings which greens staff have been busily preparing the holes for.

Ongoing audits are continuing with identification of irrigation issues across the site. These issues are small leaks, sprinkler heads which are found to be faulty, and ensuring water is being used more efficiently with the increased temperatures and below average rainfall.

Luke Telford - Course Superintendent

Your Membership Card Inactive 2-3 days

As mentioned in our last newsletter the Club will be moving to the MiMembership system from 1 November, thus the interruption in use of Membership Cards during the upgrade period. Thank you in advance for your support and patience as we complete these much needed technology improvements. We will provide more details on MiMembership and its benefits to Members once we are live.

Club Championships

Last Saturday after the first four groups had played the 2nd hole it becomes apparent that the hole was located such that the ball would not stop near the hole due to the severity of the slope, which resulted in several players taking an excessive number of putts. Following a close review of the R&A guidance on "Moving the Position of the Hole Due to Severity of Position In stroke play" by the Captain, Vice Captain and two other Golf Committee members enacted the rule:

  • Suspend play, relocate the hole and have the players who played the hole return at the conclusion of their rounds to replay the hole. The score for the hole for these players is the score achieved after the hole is relocated.

The impacted players were all contacted or left messages to come back and replay the hole.  Safeguards have been put in place, to ensure this will not occur again.

As we move into round 2 for the Men's Club Championships, round 2 (Final) for Veteran Men and round 3 for the Women we would like to wish all our players the very best as they progress through the rounds.

To view Championship qualifiers please CLICK HERE.  Or view on the Members page on the website.

Next Sunday 5 November we see the accumulation of the Club Championships with the formal Club Championship Presentation in the Club Lounge to commence around 5pm. All welcome to come celebrate this major annual Club Championship Event and cheer the final winners.
