Amateur Cup

Last Saturday the Club hosted the North Ryde Amateur Cup. This year we had 77 players, with 51 players from other clubs, it was fantastic to see so many playing in this annual event.

After 18 holes we had 3 players tied on 2 under with rounds of 67. Brij Ingrey (from The Australian), Josh Leggo (from Muirfield) & Alex Peade (from Mona Vale) resulting in a 3-hole playoff. Brij Ingrey won the playoff, with even par for the 3 holes, 2nd was Josh Leggo and Alex Peade was 3rd as he wasn't able to make it back to the club after playing earlier in the morning.

North Ryde showed once again that it isn't as easy as people think, there were 28 people in the field who had a Handicap of scratch or better, with the lowest being 4 people playing off +4 yet only 4 players were able to break Par on the day and only 3 non-members who were able to play better than their handicap. Congratulations to the final winners on the day!

The North Ryde Amateur Bowl Members competition was also played on Saturday with congratulations to the winner, Antonio Choi with a Nett 67 on a countback.

2023 Members Handbook

Dear Members, we are pleased to announce the Members Books will be in the office for collection from this coming Monday 23 January. In the meantime it is accessible on the website through Members Page - Golf Documents or click this LINK.

Subscription Reminder: All subscriptions for the 2023-24 membership are distributed, remember to check your inboxes and your junk folders if you are missing your Subscription Notices. If you find us in the junk, please make us a trusted email. If you have not received your subscription email notice please let the office know by email office@northrydegolfclub.com.au.

Also remember to use any outstanding house levy money from 2022, transfer all your prize money and redeem golf balls won by end of February 2023.

2023 North Ryde Junior Open

The North Ryde Junior Open Championship was played on Thursday, 19 January. Apart from the rain it turned out to be a perfect day for playing golf.

The Winners

Boys Champion: Christian Rees Oatlands GC - Handicap 4 with 71 Scratch
Runner-Up: Ian Kim - St Michaels GC - Handicap +2 with 73 Scratch
Girls Champion: Lara Mandalidis - NRGC - Handicap 8 with 83 Scratch
Runner-Up: Sophie Tong - Killara GC - Handicap 12 with 85 Scratch

Boys - Best Nett overall: Yu Wang - NRGC - Handicap 16 with 68 nett
Girls - Best Nett overall: Shayla Coburn - Leonay GC - Handicap 34 with 73 nett

Happy Lunar New Year The Year of The Rabbit

Sunday, 22 January this weekend is the start of Lunar New Year. This year it's the year of the Rabbit, the Rabbit occurs every 12 years and is known as a symbol of kindness, hope and long life.

Our Club is blessed with a significant Chinese Australian, Korean Australian and other east and south east Asian communities with a wonderful cultural background to share, we wish everyone a Happy Luna New Year for 2023.

New Golf Rules 2023

As of January 1 2023, the new Golf rules have come into play as mention previously in a prior Nov'22 newsletter. If you would like to know the full details please click on this LINK to Golf Australia website that will give a full summary and videos to explain the major changes such as:

Simplified Back-on-the-Line Relief
New rule 25 that applies to Golfers with disabilities
Replacing Damaged Clubs
Ball moved by natural forces
Handicap on Scorecard

One other change is that hard copies are no longer being distributed to clubs for members. You can access the Rules through R&A and the Rules of Golf App. See links below link to access these. There is also a link on the Members Golf Documents page of our website. You can purchase a hardcopy of the official 2023 Rules of Golf through online bookstores by googling 'The official guide to the rules of golf 2023'.

Meet Joseph

As promised another new team member to introduce to you this week is Joseph Maguire who spent his formative years just down the road in Epping. I think we could class him a local lad.

Some of his favourite pass times include golfing (yahoo), skiing and relaxing with a good book when time permits. Joseph is also a keen AFL follower and supports Sydney's own GWS Giants.

Joseph is looking forward to starting his university study (BA in Phycology Honours & BA in Logistics & Brain Science) at Macquarie University. He's enjoying his new job working in the Club so please make him welcome with a smile or g’day next time you see him.

Friday 3 February - Meat Raffle - Our Weekly Friday Night Meat Raffles are back! 2023 will see 18 trays to be won and a $1,000 Members Cash Draw each week that will jackpot to $2,000 if not claimed on the night by the Member who is drawn. On the Jackpot Night it's guaranteed to go to a lucky Member in attendance!

Sunday 12 February - Super Sunday - Super Sunday FREE Music will be back once again on 12 February with $1,000 Members Cash Draw guaranteed to be won. The opportunity to listen to some laid back favourite tunes from 4pm and celebrate the win of our Golfers in January 2023. All welcome - it's a great way to finish off a weekend.
