Sports Bar Grand Opening

What a fabulous night our Grand Opening event was, last Friday, 22 September when at last we were able to show off our amazing new Sports Bar facility to our Members and local community with over 250 in attendance across the Club.

The evening started with 25 meat trays, then Member John Turra won the $2,000 Members' Cash Draw. Our super bar staff were busy all night showing off their new cocktails making skills, while food was being ordered from our new Sports Bar Menu (click to view). Lastly we enjoyed the opening speech by our President Mark Mathieson.

This is truly a great space for watching the sporting action on the Super Screen 4.5m x 2.4m or one of the many 65'' screens so you don't miss a moment. A perfect place for the having a cocktail on the deck as we move into summer overlooking the best views in North Ryde.

Bring your friends, family or come along solo to join in the fun and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere here in North Ryde. We look forward to welcoming you.

The Sports Bar Open: 11am till late, 7 days
The Sports Bar Menu: available 7 days, lunch and dinner.

Meet our Nominees

Many of you will know our three nominees for Club Person of the Year but for those who don't let me introduce you and why they were nominated by their fellow members for this prestigious award.

  • Russ (Rusty) Fennell - While Russ and family are well known figures around the Club for over 14 years now, many of you may not be aware of the volunteer hours, Rusty puts in to support our Major Men's Pennants team. Visiting every course (6) in this year's competition, taking note of all 18 holes, what and what not to do for the benefit of both caddies and players. Rusty has also volunteered many hours behind the scenes, more recently helping to construct furniture and set up the darts area in our new Sports Bar. Thanks, Rusty.
  • Serg Puz - A Member of the Club for over 35 years, Serg is a long-term passionate member who has volunteered many hours of his time to supporting the Club over the years, more recently he regularly gives freely of his time to assist the course team in the woodies volunteer program beautifying the course for the enjoyment of all fellow Members and our many public players. Thanks, Serg.
  • Norm Spalding - While he may not have been at the Club as long as our other nominees, he has had no less of an impact in helping to support our Club. With 40 years in the NSW Ambulance Service, Norm has employed his training and knowledge to establish the Club's emergency health & safety policy which included the new AED installed at the 9/17 tee with emergency phone protocol and providing first aid training to staff. Thank, Norm.

Come and support these three amazing Members at next week's Commemoration Dinner, no matter who is announced Club Person of the Year they are all winners. This is your opportunity to not only enjoy the Club and the night but also to thank the nominees for the time and effort they put in that helps makes our Club so special.

8th Tee Rebuild

Following the increased degradation of the foundations of the 8th tee, where part of the platform appeared to be supported by the wire fence boarding the Telstra Exchange, your Board and Management escalated its repair priority.

Please see some of the photos capturing the dig out before the repair commences.  The rebuild will include more appropriate infrastructure including Agg pipe back to pits, blue metal drainage and galvanised steel posts with reinforced concrete supports.

We envisage the new structure will stand the test of time, outlasting the previous watermark of 50 years!

Congratulations Tommy!

Member Wins Away from Home: Last Saturday, 23 September a few of our Members played in The Northbridge Cup, a Vardon Event first played in 1976. With a score of 67, North Ryde's very own Tommy Crockart was the winner of the Cup. Pictured smiling proudly showing off the spoils of victory as presented by one of the sponsors.

This is a fantastic achievement as it is the first winner of a Vardon Event by a North Ryde Member for some time. Well done Tommy.

Vets' Latest News

Coming up in October are our Vets' Championships, the 2 Rounds being played on Monday, 23 and Monday, 30 October.  As per 2022, players will book into their preferred time for Monday, 23 October and such time will remain for Round 2 should they not qualify for Round 2.

For the 2nd Round on Monday, 30 October, the top 8 from Round 1 in each Division will then be seeded to play together at the end of the field.  Of the 3 Divisions, the 2 groups in Division 3 will be the first 2 groups to tee off, followed by the 2 groups in Division 2, and lastly, Division 1 will have their 2 groups teeing off.  Those players who have not qualified from Round 1, will be playing a Stableford game rather than another Stroke round, and your Round 1 tee off time will remain unchanged.

With regard to Hams Day and the number of games required to qualify for a ham, details will be provided in next week's 19TH News. Our next game is Monday, 9 October, after which there are 4 games left prior to Hams Day on Monday, 11 December.

New Face

Excited to once again introduce you to another new staff member who has recently joined the Team at North Ryde Golf Club, Natalie Me-Tal. Natalie has a passion for hospitality and after working and obtaining certificates as a cook, baker and working behind the bar (makes a mean cocktail) is now in her first year studying fulltime, Hospitality Management at Ryde Tafe.

Many of you may have seen Natalie hard at work making cocktails at The Sports Bar Grand Opening. She loves helping and making the customer experience as positive as she can and is enjoying working at the Club. Only two streets away from where she is living. A resident of Ryde her whole life, Natalie is certainly a local to the Club.

She also loves to travel having just got back from extensive travel in Europe, loving to see new places and meet new people, Natalie is certainly suited for hospitality. Say hello and welcome Natalie to the Club family when you see her next.

Just touch base with either the office or Bar Staff - theses chairs have been taken off the floor and are stored in the old gaming area.
