Course Report

Firstly, let me begin by saying hello from your new Course Superintendent. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all staff and members of North Ryde Golf Club for making me feel very welcome on my first few days since starting on Monday, 16 October. I am looking forward to getting to know all Members and staff.

Around the Course:  Turfing works on the 8th tee is currently in the final stages of being prepared for turfing which includes backfilling the area, setting of irrigation as well as finalising the levels on the tee. Turfing will happen on Thursday, 19 October. The new turf will take a number of weeks to establish prior to the opening of the area.

Taking advantage of turf being delivered onsite, we have taken the opportunity to repair the 2nd right hand green surround. The area has been prepared for turf and will be GUR until the surface is established. Please note this is a high traffic area, so I ask all golfers to please take note of the ropes which will be managing traffic away from the area.

Irrigation:  Over the coming weeks staff will be performing irrigation audits over the entire course. This process is conducted to identify and repair leaks and faults in the system to make every drop count through an anticipated dry summer.

General:  Staff are busily working around the course preparing the site for the Women's and Men's Club Championships. I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone competing the best of luck.

Luke Telford - Course Superintendent

Super Saturday Winners

Last Saturday, 14 October, it was great to once again celebrate the wins of our Golfing members. This time it was a wide age group of winners from September, all with smiling happy faces, as pictured on our verandah making the most of a lovely daylight savings evening in the Club as the usual great live music was being played.

This was followed by our monthly Super Saturday Member's Cash Draw. This time the $1,000 in cash was split between our lucky winning Members also pictured above: Trent Woodley holding the $500 cash prize,  Jessica Hooper with the $300 and Tim McCauley the $200.

Congratulations to all our winners, those who were able to celebrate their wins with us as well as those who were unable to attend. Hopefully we see you at upcoming events such as our next Super Saturday, 11 November - Mark the Date in your Diaries!

MiMembership is Coming Soon!

Your Board & Management are pleased to advise that the Club will be moving to the MiMembership system from 1 November! MiMembership is part of MiClub, which you would all would be familiar with as we already use their golf system, MiGolf.

This move provides the Club and Members with a number of benefits compared to our existing membership system, including more ways to pay your membership subscriptions and membership cards will be able to be accessed from smart phones.  The biggest benefits are behind the scenes, including faster, more streamlined membership renewal process, more user friendly member account management and as the software is “in the cloud” it provides enhanced data security.

In order to migrate Members House Accounts to the new system and conduct thorough testing before going live, there will be a couple of days when you will be unable to use or top up your Accounts:

Members’ House Accounts will be ON HOLD from 6pm Sunday, 29th October for up to 2 days, they will be back online by the morning of Wednesday 1st November at the latest.

We will at the same time be moving our accounting system to Xero, going live on 1 November, so there are a lot of technology changes happening…and more to come!

Thank you in advance for your support and patience as we complete these much needed technology improvements. We will provide more details on MiMembership and its benefits to Members once we are live.

What is the Melbourne Cup? It's the Race that stops a nation! The Melbourne Cup is an annual horse race which was first held in 1861 and has become the most important Australian Thoroughbred race of the year and one of the most prestigious races in the world.

The Melbourne Cup takes place at the Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne on the first Tuesday of November each year, which is a public holiday in Victoria. Over the 160+ years since its foundation it has become a piece of integral identity in Australian culture. It’s a day where people from all walks of life come together to celebrate not just horse racing but maybe the bonding moment as the nation watches the winning horse cross the finish line. It is a handicap race (where the weight the horses must carry during the race are adjusted in relation to their age) and is open to horses three years of age and older. The race takes place over 1.99 miles (3,200 metres). If you would like to explore a bit more of the History of the race click HERE.

Join us at the Club to watch the Melbourne Cup on the big screens and be here for the magic moment as we all cheer on the winner!

Hole in One

Always great to celebrate our Members achievements and especially when a fellow player takes a photo of this historic moment. Our latest Hole in One was achieved by Trevor Edgoose last Saturday, 14 October during Members Competition on the 8th hole. Thanks Frank Bruce for this fantastic snap shot of a very happy Trevor. But wait I believe this is not the first Hole in one for Trevor in fact, August 2022 he also achieved a Hole in One on the 3rd, April 2020 on the 14th, Dec 2019 on the 3rd and in 2016 in March also on the 3rd...maybe there is more on the honor board downstairs, maybe worth checking out. Wow good job Trevor!

Darts Update from Wednesday 18/10:

B GRADE:  After clinching a 6 all draw away from home at the Garry Owen Hotel last week in a seesawing match which featured  "A Grade average numbers" from Tigers Pedro Costantino (46.58) the boys were back at home last night.

Up against B Grade leaders Nth Ryde RSL, in the local derby the Tigers just couldn't find their mojo and despite good early efforts from Peter Miller and Ryan Bissett the boys went down 8-4 to remain 3rd on the ladder.

A GRADE:  The previous week saw us at home for the 'top of the table' clash against early title favourites "The Humble Birds". Win this and we go 4 points ahead on the ladder... After battling to be only 5-4 down after the doubles - the boys showed their absolute desire to win - rattling off the next 4 consecutive singles matches, nearly all in straight sets to get the 8-7 win in an epic display.  Big Dell again taking down one of the league's hot shots with a 2nd leg 16 darter (93.94 average) good enough to watch on the big screen !!  And WHO ARE THE FAVOURITES NOW !!!

So brimming with confidence and off to Nth Ryde RSL for the other local derby last night, the lads were at it again.  With Greg (The King) Bowen side lined with injury - the boys stepped up to the plate and did what only champion sides do.  Coming from a 6-3 down after the doubles,  they then produced a "Pantheresque" comeback taking 5 of the 6 singles matches stunning the RSL team with an unbelievable miracle 8-7 victory.  Were the RSL surprised?  They were kinder surprised!! With big Aiden smashing out 2 x 21 dart legs (71.57 average) to set up Benny Cutrone who then put the nail in the coffin to win the 8th match and remain top of the ladder.  One of the best team efforts you will see - go you good things !

Greg Warwick -Dean of NRGC Darts
