Captain's Update

With winter just around the corner I thought I would take this opportunity to remind members about a few key course matters and issues with timesheets in winter.

Winter Golf
With the shorter days that winter brings we need to be aware of a few key issues:

Pace of Play - during winter the time sheets are shortened to ensure that everyone finishes in the daylight.  This unfortunately means less members are getting a game in the competitions.  All golfers need to make sure they keep up with the group in front and not just on the last few holes but from the first hole. If pace of play is good we can add a few extra groups to the sheet, enabling more members a game. You need to ensure that you are ready to go when your name is called to the tee, not still having a drink or putting.

During winter, especially with the earlier groups we need you to Grab & Go at the halfway bar.  Please don't sit if the 10th tee is free. If the earlier groups take too long it effects the later groups and backs up play.

Late cancellations - late cancellations, especially on Saturdays continue to be a problem. In fairness to your fellow members please organise your groups earlier in the week and make changes as soon as possible to allow hose on those on the waitlist to get a game. There is nothing more frustrating than having a full sheet on a Friday night only to see 8-10 fewer spots on the Saturday.

Course Care - with the slower growth during winter, may I please ask all members to make sure you fix your divots and pitch marks. Also rake the bunkers if needed for the next players coming through.

Vet's News

On Monday of this week, the Vets held their AGM.  This was preceded by a round of golf with 97 players of which 68 attended the meeting.  The outgoing Committee were re-elected unopposed and to remind members, they are as follows:-

Charles Titmuss - Chairman
Scott Beatty - Captain
Steve Webster - Secretary
Yaros Iwanec - Treasurer
Alex Bathgate - Committee Member
Charles Kinder - Committee Member

At the conclusion of the meeting, members proceeded to the half way bar for drinks and a Sausage Sizzle.  A good time was had by all.

We wish to thank those Club employees who assisted in arranging both the Auditorium and half way bar facilities, plus our cooks and volunteer wives who buttered the bread rolls.  Your assistance enabled the occasion to run smoothly.

Once again, we would ask members should they find that after making a booking that they are unable to play, would you please endeavour to remove your name at your earliest opportunity and at least 2 days prior to the game, so that the space can be filled by another member.  We understand that this may not always be possible, however your consideration for other members would be greatly appreciated.  As it is, it is difficult enough for everyone to obtain a space when the sheet becomes available, so the earlier names are removed due to unavailability, would be welcomed by all members.  Thank you.

Scott Beatty, Captain

Arnie, Jack and Tiger Before God

Arnold PalmerJack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods are standing at the throne of heaven. God looks at them and says, "Before granting you a place at my side, I must ask you what you have learned, what you believe in."

God asks Arnie first: "What do you believe?" Arnie thinks long and hard, looks God in the eye, and says, "I believe in hard work, and in staying true to family and friends. I believe in giving. I was lucky, but I always tried to do right by my fans."

God can't help but see the essential goodness of Palmer, and offers him a seat to his left. Then God turns to Nicklaus and says, "What do you believe?"

Jack says, "I believe passion, discipline, courage and honour are the fundamentals of life. Like Arnold, I believe in hard work. I, too, have been lucky, but win or lose, I've always tried to be a true sportsman, both on and off the playing fields."

God is greatly moved by Jack's high-pitched eloquence, and he offers him a seat to his right.

Finally, God turns to Woods: "And you, Tiger, what do you believe?"

Tiger replies, "I believe you're in my seat."
