Clubhouse Upgrade

The plans are in full swing for the Clubhouse upgrade.  The Board and Management have been well supported by many members with encouraging questions and thoughts - thank you.  A combination of discussions and queries raised by members has prompted us to add to the previously-released FAQ's (frequently asked questions).  Please see below some additions:

Q - What are the hours of operation of the new Sports Bar area?

A - The hours are fluid and subject to change but will be well-communicated.  Initially we expect to be opened from 11am - 11pm each day.

Q - The investment is a significant concentration on the Clubhouse?

A - In recent years the Club has invested in both the Clubhouse and Course following years of under-investment.  The earlier clubhouse spend has been necessary to remain viable but now we have the opportunity to do better than play catch-up.  Future planned investment for the revenue-generating area of the Sports Bar which will assist in maintaining the extremely competitive subscription fees our members enjoy.  In the last couple of years, investment on the Course has included the upgrade of the 18th, pathways and relocation and upgrading of the practice facilities.

Q - When did the planning commence for the project and why?

A - The original planning began more than two years ago and while nothing was formalised, the Auditorium is the most under-utilised area of the Club and Functions have been subsidised, taking money away from other areas.  Following investigative work, the actual contract for the project was signed with James Clifford Constructions on Thursday 20 April, 2023.

Please see below link for previously released announcement and FAQs.

Course Report

On Monday this week we welcomed our North Ryde Golf Club volunteers joining our Woodies & Greenies teams.

We had a great turnout of 7 members for our first morning Induction. It was a great opportunity to meet more of the membership and for these interested members to learn a bit more about what happens in the background of keeping our greens looking so good.

We spent some time going through our induction checklist with our volunteers, answering questions and working through any concerns raised.

Our volunteers were given a golf cart of sand and the task for the day was 'Divoting' tees, mainly concentrating on Par 3's as they get the most amount of damage. Following their hard-working and efficient efforts the scope of works expanded, getting around to all of the tee complexes as well.

I would like to thank the volunteers for giving up their own personal time and I am grateful for them wanting to contribute to North Ryde Golf Club making the course a more enjoyable experience for all.

Regards

Dean LenertzCourse Superintendent

NOTE: While course care is fresh in our minds, it is timely to include the following message.

Vets' News

This is an early reminder to all Vets of our forthcoming AGM Golf Day on Monday, 22 May.  You may not realise it, but this AGM will be the Vets 25th.  How time flies after age 55!

Details are that it will be a Shot Gun start at 8am and upon conclusion of the round, members will meet in the Half Way Bar for an approximate 12.30pm start of the AGM.  We would like to see as many members as possible attending this special AGM celebrating a quarter of a century for North Ryde Golf Club's Veterans.  Come along and celebrate this wonderful occasion.

Notwithstanding, it is also your opportunity to speak up should you have any complaints or suggestions as to how the Vets is conducted.  It is the Committee's commitment to provide members with an enjoyable round of golf each and every time you play.  Your input will assist us in achieving this goal.

After the meeting members will return to the Half Way Bar where the Club would like to acknowledge the 25-year milestone with a FREE BBQ Sausage Sizzle and drinks voucher for all Vet Members attending. Could members not expecting to attend after golf, please let Yaros know for catering purposes.

With regard to the election required for the 2023-24 Committee, all current Committee Members are standing once again except for Alex Bathgate.  Alex has given 17 consecutive years to the Vets and has decided to retire from the Committee, he will be sorely missed.  His contribution to the smooth running of the Vets has been massive.  As a result, we will be seeking nominations for his replacement.  Should anyone be interested in nominating for any position on the Committee, please advise a member of the Committee accordingly.  The position of the new member of the Committee will be as a support to the other elected Members.

Nomination forms are available from the Committee or the Club office. Nominations are open and completed forms must be delivered to, and acknowledged by, the General Manager before 5.00pm on Sunday, 21 May 2023.  Late Nominations cannot be accepted.

Scoring - MiScore vs Manual

All members are encouraged to utilise the free technology and enter their scores on the MiScore App with the press of a button rather than manually writing in an entry each time on your card.

Staff in the Office or Pro Shop will be only too happy to assist you downloading the App.  By using the App, it will not only save us printing a card but more importantly it will save you time in entering your score and also at the end of the round there is nothing more to do.   Please note that following a recent update, the App no longer supports Android 7 devices and iPhone 6 models.  Users will need to upgrade to Android 8+ or iOS13+.

As technology marches on, the scanners are proving problematic and accordingly the one remaining scanner which was sometimes working was removed last week.  Members wishing to use a manual card will need to enter their scores manually at the kiosk at the end of their round.
