- Slow Play -
Captain's Report

We are grateful to all be playing again and also this week we welcomed back carts.

With the winter solstice fast approaching, the days are shorter which means less tee times.  In the interests of all members getting in a full game, not to mention playing enjoyable and flowing golf, we will now be closely monitoring rounds.  Using our On-Pin technology coupled with your bag tag, it was observed that last Saturday there were some really slow groups. This frustrates the players behind and for that matter, the rest of the field.  The use of member bag tags is compulsory.

We are reluctant to introduce penalty action for slow play but for the majority of players that do play "Ready Golf" and are doing the right thing, they should not have their game impacted.  Accordingly, from this week we will send out slow play letters and the following week you will be playing at the end of the field.  We hope this acts as enough of a deterrent that we don't need to exercise more draconian measures - Please!

Glenn Woodley - Captain

Course Report

Finally some dry weather after all these days, weeks and months of excessive rainfall with carts finally able to be allowed back out for use. Slowly the very bad areas are returning to normal and firming up, meaning course machinery can move around with ease and without fear of damage.

Remaining damaged fairway areas can now be repaired and the top of the 4th fairway will be re-turfed in the coming week. Fingers crossed the dry weather continues and golf and course maintenance can get back to normal.

Ron Duffy - Course Superintendent

Ladies Update

Tuesday 14 June - 2Ball Team + Individual Stableford (NSW Bowl):  The NSW Bowl is an annual competition to support specific female golf initiatives. The team with the best Stableford score from both midweek and weekend competitions will be submitted to Golf NSW.

This is a team plus an Individual event. Each player in the team plays stableford.  The computer will work out the team score.

Foursomes Championships:  Tuesday 21 June the Foursomes Championships begin.  This is a scratch event played over two consecutive Tuesdays.

The sheet is downstairs so please get your names down as soon as possible so that the draw can be done. The lowest marker of the pair will determine the division the pair competes in for the first round. They will then remain in that division for the competition.

Foursomes Knockout:  The Foursomes Knockout Final was held Thursday 6 June between Elizabeth Sung & Sarah Dale vs Heesuk Lee & Anna Han. It was a lovely day and both teams played beautifully. Elizabeth and Sarah were the victors defeating Heesuk & Anna 6/4.

Weekend Ladies: Medal Round 5 was completed Sunday 5 June. Winners: Div I & Scratch - Angela Café (H'cap 14) Div II - Connie Iong (H'cap 45).

Mens' Master Pennant Update

The NRGC Master Pennant Team is entering its 5th Week of Competition just one point behind the Leaders (Kareela) in second position.

The Team so far has drawn 4-4 all with Marrickville (A) in the first round and won the second round at home 6-2. In the third round we played Northbridge (A) resulting in another 4-4 drawn match. In the fourth round we had to play Northbridge again but at home where we were victorious 5-3.

This Sunday 12 June starting at 11am, the Team is at home hosting Kareela G.C. and the Club will be represented by: Glenn Blundell, Roy Shuttleworth, Greg Sheaves, Chris Millard (Captain), John McKie, Brett Cummerford, Greg Imber and Peter Richardson.

The game this week should be a beauty as there is only one point separating Kareela and ourselves with completion of the Sectional games only having 2 weeks remaining.  Come see some great competition and support our team on their home soil.

We wish the Team every success in the remaining weeks ahead.

Steve Callaghan - Director & Team Manager

After they went into the locker room, another golfer who had heard the old guys talking about their game went to the pro and said, "I've been playing golf for a long time and thought I knew all the terminology of the game, but what's a rider?"

The pro said, "A rider is when you hit the ball far enough to actually get in the golf cart and ride to it."
