New Bar Name

After receiving 123 name suggestions, your Board have narrowed down the top three finalists. With thanks to you, their nominators, the finalists (in no particular order) are :

There were many great suggestions and as such, some of our top names were suggested by more than one member. The first person who sent in the name is the one who gets the glory.

Watch this space to see who the lucky winner is and who are the runners-up. The legacy of naming our new bar is just another step in the exciting unveiling of this integral and important new part of the Club.

One Week Away - Super Saturday

Join us for Super Saturday next weekend, 12 August for our monthly FREE live music entertainment. This month presenting duo group JT33 who can take us back to classic hits from 60's, 70's, 80's and all the way to current pop music, just let them know your speed. Lock in the date for next Saturday to join in the fun from 4:30pm. All welcome to join in the celebration of great music, our Golf winners from July and for the chance to be one of our three lucky members, be they social or full playing, to win some cash.

Super Seniors Pennants

Last Thursday saw North Ryde play host to the first round of the Super Seniors Pennants and this week on Tuesday, 1 August, North Ryde Golf Club's Team played their first Super Senior pennants match at Oatlands Golf Club against Muirfield.

The weather was perfect for golf. The matches were close, but unfortunately in the end we lost three matches on the 18th to lose 6.5 to 1.5. Congratulations to Dave Hyland on winning his match 3/1 and Geoff Rogerson who had a draw.

We look forward to our next match on Thursday, 10 August against Asquith, hosted by Muirfield. We wish the following members all the best:

Update - Eric Apperly Shield

Last Sunday, 30 July, North Ryde hosted the Eric Apperley section 1 teams. It was another spectacular winter's day to play golf.

North Ryde was defeated 4 to 2 by Avondale, this was actually a very good result considering that Avondale only lost one individual match throughout the whole of last year's competition.

Congratulations and wishing them all the best for Round 5 on Sunday, 6 August playing against Liverpool at Avondale Golf Club.

Charity Day Tuesday 22 August: Please put the names of your team for Charity Day on the sheet in the locker room. (This sheet is so that we know who your team is when we do the draw). Once you have done that, go to the Charity Day Registration and payment timesheet and make your payment. (This timesheet is only for member payments).

If you need help making your payment please reach out to one of the Committee.

An Eagle on 12: Congratulations to Aekyung Yim who had an eagle on Hole 12 on Tuesday 1 August. Getting the ball in the hole in two strokes under Par, an "Eagle" in golf is one of the most coveted and challenging to achieve feats in the game. Certainly something to celebrate and a wonderful way to start the month.

Barbara Evennett - Women's Captain

Weekend Women's News:

On Sunday, 30 July the Weekend Women played their 6th and final stroke - Medal round for the season in glorious weather conditions. The winner of Division 1 was Angie Arathoon with a nett score of 72. She was closely followed by Angela Café with a score of 74. Division 2 was won by Jackie White with a nett score of 72, followed by Kerrie Hinde with a nett score of 73. The scratch winner for the day was Angela Café with a Gross score of 91. Nearest the Pin on the 10th hole was won by Angie Arathoon and Angela Café won Nearest the Pin for the Vets. Congratulations to all the winners.

On Sunday, 23 July our Pennants team played against Concord at Pennant Hills. The team consisted of Philippa Ternes, Angela Café, Angie Arathoon, Kerrie Hinde and Jackie White. The final result was 2 1/2 points to each team. Congratulations.

Darts Update

The Darts Teams are off and running in the 2023 Summer Competition last week with the A Grade boys on Wednesday, 26 July starting with a convincing 11-4 win over North Ryde RSL. Not so lucky were the B Grade Team who went down 8-4 in a rematch of their Grand Final to Garry Owen.

A very tough and close competition is expected in both divisions this time around, but both NRGC teams will be certainly up for the challenge.

Bring on the new Sports Bar and let's get some more home support to cheer the boys along!

Welcome a New Face

You may have seen a few more new faces amongst the staff recently, let me introduce you to one this week.

Michael Knight, is local to the area, living just up the road in Ryde. A past student at Holy Cross and now studying in his first year at Macquarie University majoring in economics.

Michael is passionate about soccer - whether playing or watching - and still plays with his old Alma Mater, Holy Cross all ages. He also loves to spend time with his mates of course, playing, watching and maybe even talking about soccer! Maybe we can work on converting him to golf??

Whilst this is his first job behind the bar, he loves meeting and chatting to people so we think he will fit in with the friendly vibe at North Ryde Golf Club very well. Please say 'g'day' whilst he is learning the ropes.

Who Won?

As promised this week we get the pleasure of announcing the winner of the Taylors Winery 'Buy a glass of the Hotelier wine and win a $100 Dining and Bar Voucher'.

Drum roll please, the winner is Alan Bradley.

We look forward to touching base with Alan and being able to present to him his voucher in the next week. In the meantime, if you did not get the chance to sample this new addition to our wine list we recommend you give it a go.

Now stocking Hotelier Chardonnay and Shiraz.
