Course Report

Sadly, this week we farewell Course Superintendent, Dean Lenertz.  During the last year Dean has made many positive impacts both on the Course and with the team and we wish him and his family every future success and happiness.  We thank him for his last Course report and together with his team, a successful Course Renovation!

Over the next couple of weeks we are conducting interviews from a strong list of candidates and we look forward to introducing Dean's successor shortly.

Anthony Ryan - General Manager

Greens Renovation:  On Monday 4 and Tuesday 5 September this week we completed our spring renovations. This included the aerating of our greens, tees, fairways and green surrounds. The benefits of this will improve the overall health of the turf.

The weather gods were on our side this week with blue skies and light winds, almost feeling like the end of spring rather than the beginning. We had an early 5am start to begin coring of our greens. This is the slowest part of the process as all the cores have to be picked up before we can start applying the sand.  Once the sand is applied it takes 3 to 4 hours for the sand to dry and rubbed into the core holes.

Once the coring of the greens is completed, we start on our tees and green surrounds. This is a much easier process as the cores can be rubbed in with a metal drag mat and blown away with our commercial tow behind blowers.

Due to the size and area of our fairways an outside contractor is hired to complete the process of aerating. Please see photos below of some of the work including the machine that aerates the fairways.

Darts Wrap

Both our darts teams has fantastic results last week, Wednesday, 30 August (Round 6). A great 8-4 home win for our B Grade Tigers over last years premiers and current leaders Garry Owen to consolidate them into the top 4 which saw some great scoring and finishing from young gun Ryan Bissett, having 6 x 100+ visits to the board and a brilliant 97 checkout (look out you A Graders !!).

Capping off the night and away from home was the highly anticipated A Grade top of the table clash against Gladesville Grizzlies who prior to this match remained unbeaten. It didn't take them long to establish themselves either going ahead early to a 4-1 lead in the doubles,  leaving The A Grade Team with a real fight to pull them back. So step up to the plate The Crockart cousins !!  With the bit between their teeth they managed to lift their partners and win the next 4 games straight edging us ahead 5-4. With the singles games now to play they then kept their nerve in a nail biting finish to win both their singles matches with Tom getting the important 8th game win for a superb captains knock and the team scoring a very impressive 9-6 comeback win leaving the A Grade Team with a bye in hand as outright leaders after round 1 of the comp. Well done boys !!

Also, Special mention to Ben Cutrone who not only had his hand in the A Grade darts victory but also took out the A Grade Singles Bowls Championship at Denistone the previous weekend - Well done Benny !!

Helpful knowledge

At a golf course, four men approach the 16th tee. The straight fairway runs along a road and bike path fenced off on the left. The first golfer tees off and hooks the ball in that direction. The ball went over the fence and bounced off the bike path onto the road, where it hit the tire of a moving bus and was knocked back on to the fairway. As they all stood in amazement, one man asked him, how on earth did you do that?

Without hesitation, he said, you have to know the bus timetable.
